PixabayGlasgow has been named Britain’s spice capital after a new study found the city likes their curries hotter than anyone else.
According to the research, commissioned by UberEATS, Glaswegians have a taste for spice leaving the rest of the UK crying into their Kormas.
Southampton finished in second place, just behind Glasgow, and were followed by Cambridge, Cardiff and Liverpool.
PixabayUnsurprisingly the poll, which was carried out via OnePoll, revealed that Tikka Masala is the most popular curry dish in the UK and that six out of 10 of us have a favourite curry house we loyally buy from every week.
Meanwhile chicken is the UK’s favourite meat and we also love a classic onion bhaji as a starter.
The survey also found that four out of ten of us usually choose exactly the same meal each time.
PixabayUs Brits love to show off though as the survey reveals as 17 per cent of the population will order a hotter curry than usual in a bid to outdo their mates.
Locals in Norwich have the mildest palette and Brummies order more curries in a month than any other city.
Recently Indian replaced pizza as being the most popular choice for a takeaway in the UK so Birmingham soon may have competition.
PixabayIn celebration of Glasgow’s taste for spice, UberEATS has partnered up with Indian restaurant Tuk Tuk to cret the ‘Hellfire Phaal’, a curry that is twice as spicy as a Vindaloo and includes chillies that you cannot find in any mainstream supermarket.
It is so hot chefs at the restaurant have to wear protective gloves and eyewear while making it.
As a part of National Curry Week next week, locals are being invited to try the hell-like hot mixture of spices and chillies.
