It may not come as a surprise to some that the average Brit only feels like they are performing at their ‘very best’ for just one third of the day.
A poll of 2,000 British adults have found how millions of us are struggling to function at one hundred per cent throughout the working day.
It was also found that your average Brit will feel less than their best for nearly eight out of the 24 hours of the day, preventing them from making the most of their time.
The top – and all too relatable – reason for this was found to be a bad night’s sleep, followed by not getting enough fresh air and being hungry.
Dehydration and draining commutes were also found to be significant culprits in preventing Brits from being in tip-top condition throughout the day.
This study was commissioned as part of Highland Spring’s new ‘A to Anywhere’ campaign launch, which focused on the benefits of hydration.
Find out more about the results of this study below:
Almost two thirds of Brits who participated in this OnePoll study hoped to make small tweaks to their day to improve their energy levels.
One third reckoned drinking more water could boost their energy, while 15 per cent of those surveyed in the study admitted to hardly drink any water whatsoever.
Mike Buckland from Highland Spring said:
From the morning wake-up call and work commute to evening exercise sessions, dinner preparations and finally lights out, modern life can be pretty hectic. The research shows that this can negatively impact how we feel.
But the appetite for change is there, with 63 per cent of adults wanting to make small changes to their everyday habits and make the most of the day. We want to help them get there, starting with healthy hydration.
Harley Street nutritionist, Rhiannon Lambert – who has joined forces with Highland Spring – has spoken out about the simple lifestyle changes Brits can make to be their best selves for longer periods of time:
We all know the demands of our daily routine can take their toll. The research is further proof that it’s more important than ever to have a number of positive lifestyle habits that can help us stay our best. These habits don’t need to be expensive or time consuming.
They can be as simple as moving away from your desk at lunchtime by taking a walk for some fresh air and practicing mindful eating.
Drinking the right amount of water is crucial too; 60 per cent of the body is water – so it’s vital that we keep this optimum level topped up. Small, positive habits such as these all add up to help us stay at our best and get us where we want to go.
Admittedly, I’m bad for drinking way too much coffee and not nearly enough water. However, I am definitely going to try a few little tweaks to my routine which will hopefully keep me feeling fueled throughout the day.
