Warning: Graphic images
There aren’t many images or video’s that make me squeamish but this guy may have topped them all.
The young man in question is lucky to be alive after suffering a sickening injury when he fell asleep at the wheel of his car.
His numerous injuries included nine broken ribs when a pole, just under 3ft, impaled through his chest as he drifted off.
Somehow, and I honestly don’t know how, he survived to tell the tale.
Piyush Sundarya, a night shift worker in India, was traveling down the motorway at 7:30 in the morning when he nodded off, causing his vehicle to crash into metal barriers.
The metal bars smashed through the windscreen and pierced straight through his chest – coming out the other side of his body just beneath his armpit.
Despite the shocking injuries, Mr Sundarya was still alive and conscious and luckily, able to scream for help.
An ambulance soon arrived at the scene – which took place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat – and passer-by’s also rushed to help.
They managed to separate the metal rod from the road divider, before a blood-soaked Piyush was taken to Shalby Muti Speciality Hospital, where he underwent a two-and-a-half-hour operation.
He needed 25 staples to seal his horrific wound and miraculously survived the ordeal.
Mr Sundarya lost two fingers and suffered severe liver damage in the accident.
Deputy general manager of Shalby Hospital, Avdhut Kothari, said:
Piyush was saved only because of the people who separated the rod from the divider.
His liver was partly damaged due to the overall shock of the accident – but he will be fine after treatment.
We will allow the fractured bones to heal on their own.
If there’s one thing you can take from this story, NEVER drive when you’re tired – not only for your sake but for the sake of others!
