Police in Cleveland, England, have released audio of one of the most ridiculous 999 calls they have received this year as they warn the public not to misuse emergency numbers.
The call that has been released is from a man who is struggling with a bout of toothache, and who claims he does not know what to do. Maybe a dentist?
Acting Chief Inspector, Mark Hall, said:
Every year lives are potentially put at risk by people who are not in an emergency situation dialling 999 and hoax callers tying up phone lines and operators, meaning that those in a genuine emergency situation may not reach the emergency services as quickly.”
He added:
People ring us on 999 for all manner of things. All we would ask of anyone is that they think thoroughly about whether it is appropriate before they pick up the phone and dial 999.”

With Christmas dinner on the horizon I can understand the concern for one’s gnashers, but come on, a bit of common sense please.
Emergency services should probably have pointed out 111 is the number to call if you are unsure of what to do with a medical related issue.
