Long-term sufferers of headaches will know that living with migraines is an absolute nightmare.
Now, there are claims online there could be an unexpected cure for the condition, and it’s one which piercing lovers will be especially pleased with.
A growing number of migraine sufferers are saying they’ve found an unusual way to ease their symptoms – a daith piercing.
A daith piercing is an ear piercing which passes through the ear’s innermost cartilage fold, and advocates claim it works for them in much the same way as acupuncture – targeting pressure points on the body’s surface to ease their discomfort.
According to the NHS, acupuncture works by stimulating nerves under the skin and in muscle tissue. This leads to the body producing pain-relieving substances, such as endorphins, which leads to the beneficial pain relieving effects.
Although it hasn’t been confirmed whether the daith piercing really does work to ease migraines, doctors and experts aren’t ruling out the possibility.

On his blog, Dr. Thomas Cohn wrote about the connection between the piercing and the relief of migraines.
He wrote:
Recently, some people who have received a Daith piercing have coincidentally found improvement with their migraine headaches. It is not universal, and it is has not been studied formally. If a person enjoys ear piercing and suffers from frequent headaches, it may be worthwhile to consider getting this spot pierced. Since body piercings are generally less than $100, this may be a very economical treatment alternative.
It sounds too good to be true but it’s pretty exciting news, if it does turn out the piercing is a cure. Plus, for just £50, it seems worth taking the plunge on the off chance, especially considering how much money migraine sufferers have to spend on painkillers on a regular basis!
