A man lost a whopping 10 stone in only 15 weeks after his personal trainer banned him from his local takeaways.

28-year-old Darren ‘Dibsy’ McClintock, from Middlesbrough, weighed 40 stone at his heaviest – about the same as two baby elephants.

After doctors gave Dibsy a ‘diet or die’ ultimatum, he decided to make a change, enlisting the help of personal trainer Mike Hind.

In October Mike banned Dibsy from all of his local takeaways and put him on a strict workout regime and diet.

Dibsy now eats high protein meals which add up to 3,000 calories a day, and also means over the past 15 weeks Mike has cut 1,000,000 calories from his client’s diet.

Working out twice a day every day, including Christmas, Disby does two hours of cardio in the morning and works with weights for two hours each evening.

He claims the changes he has made has ‘saved his life’, adding:

My life has turned around within the last 15 weeks. I can actually go out and about and do things that normal people can do but take for granted.

My body aches but I feel so much better because I’m eating properly and working out every day. Every aspect of my life has improved for the better.

Obviously I’m physically fitter but I’m much happier as well, I used to be depressed and sad.

It was my birthday in December and I treated myself to fish and chips but I ate half and threw it away, I don’t even like it anymore. Some days I’ve woken up and wanted to pack it in but somehow I’ve kept going.

Coming on leaps and bounds, Dibsy can now tie his own laces, get a seat belt around him and fits in the bath.

He also rode a bike, went to the cinema and worked his first holiday abroad for the first time in years.

Mike couldn’t be happier with Dibsy’s progress, saying:

Dibsy has been absolutely incredible, I’m so proud of the work he’s done and the progress he has made. He knew it was going to be hard work but he’s got his head down and got on with it.

The way I see it this was a case of life or death. If Dibsy hadn’t made a change in his life then it could have been the end for him.

This is just the beginning, Dibsy is going to go on and live a healthy life.

As Mike said, Dibsy’s journey has only just started with the personal trainer aiming to get his client’s weight down to 20 stone by the end of the year.

If this happens, Dibsy would have lost half of his body weight in just over a year!

Within the next three weeks, Dibsy will be undergoing a cardioversion procedure, which will bring his abnormally fast heart rate down to a normal rhythm.

Due to his weight, he was previously not eligible for the procedure.

We wish him all the best with the procedure and congratulations on his progress so far!
