You think your stomach aches are bad, spare a thought for this lad…
A teenager who had stomach pains made a disturbing discovery that he was growing a parasitic ‘twin’, complete with hair, bone and teeth inside him. Can the mind vomit?
Narendra Kumar, 18, was rushed to hospital after suffering from frequent vomiting, weight loss and stomach pains. After examination from doctors, they made a grim discovery- a 2.5kg mass of bone, hair and teeth that grown inside his abdomen.
The diagnosis given was ‘foetus in fetu’. This is a rare condition which develops during pregnancy with twins, where one foetus enters the other through umbilical cord and then lives off its siblings body for survival.
Medics performed an ultrasound and CT scan on the teenager and were understandably gobsmacked by the findings.
Surgeon Dr Rajeev Singh carried out a three-hour operation to remove the mass which had 6.5 feet of hair and yellow ‘amniotic-like fluid’- all in Narendra’s stomach.
Dr Singh told MailOnline that surgeons only found the ‘twin’ when they operated on Narendra on Monday.
He said:
Technically, the foetus was alive and was growing due to metabolic activity in his body. In the three-hour-long surgery, we removed a mass of malformed baby which had hair, teeth, a poorly developed head, a bony structure of chest and spine, with lots of yellowish amniotic-like fluid in the sac.
Last October, a similar case was reported from east Indian state of Bengal where a dead foetus was found inside the abdomen of a four-year-old boy in West Midnapore district.
His father Prem Chandra, a farmer, told MailOnline: “That evil has been tormenting him for years. Now that it has been removed, I am relieved. He can now go back to school and lead a healthy life.”
We wish him a speedy recovery.
