After being diagnosed with cancer, Jake Bailey decided to put his time to good use.

Instead of focusing on himself, the head boy at Christchurch Boys’ High School delivered a heart-warming speech to his classmates.

Jake had missed the last three weeks of school undergoing treatment for the aggressive cancer that he has been told will claim his life unless he gets aggressive treatment, yet left his hospital bed and was wheeled onto the stage.

He said:

None of us get out of life alive, so be gallant, be great, be gracious, and be grateful for the opportunities you have.

The opportunity to learn from the men who walked before you and those who walk beside you.

It really is emotional to watch, and you have to consider the fact that Jake not only knows he could well die when actually making the speech, but that his classmates are also going to be seriously effected.

It’s inspiring, and despite the situation, uplifting – and has gone viral around the world.
