The Academy Awards ceremony rolled in to Hollywood last night and everyone was struggling to call who would be the big winners at the ceremony.
Among the highlights certainly, was Leonardo Di Caprio finally bagging his first Academy Award, and it’s fair to say it pretty much broke the internet.

And everyone got very emotional about Kate Winslet’s reaction to his win:

But it seemed Leo was more interested in his food than a statuette:

In other highlights, host Chris Rock addressed the controversy behind the lack of diversity among this year’s nominees head on in his opening monologue, and it’s fair to say he didn’t pull any punches.
The ceremony had been boycotted by some major Hollywood figures protesting about the lack of diversity among this year’s nominees, as all 20 nominees in the best acting or supporting acting categories were white, with surprise exclusions for Straight Outta Compton and Beast Of No Nation, among others.
He referred to the ceremony as the ‘White People’s Choice Awards’ and made a few close to the knuckle jokes, but it seemed to go down well.

There were some awkward missteps but Chris Rock never let viewers forget the issue of diversity. Love that he closed with #BlackLivesMatter.

Awesome work, @chrisrock. You killed it tonight. As always.

Spotlight won best picture, which came as quite a shock to many, with many tipping either The Revenant or The Big Short for the win.
But it seemed a popular choice among many:

Congratulations to #SpotlightMovie. Important and painful. Let the Church continue to work to prevent such abuse from ever happening again.

— Sara Hemrajani (@s_hemmy) February 29, 2016
Pleased #SpotlightMovie won Best Film. It was a tough watch at times – and the final few moments are chilling – but it’s a must-see movie.

Mark Rylance, was a bit of a surprise winner as Best Supporting Actor. Many were expecting Sylvester Stallone to walk away with it, after reprising his role as Rocky Balboa in Creed:
Mark Rylance to train whomever Adonis Creed is fighting in the Creed sequel. Marketing takes care of itself. #Oscars

#MarkRylance winning just made my night.Grace & gratitude. A Gentleman,& one of my acting hero.

Huge gasp in the lobby bar as Mark Rylance takes the prize from Sly. #Oscars shocker.
— Nicole Sperling (@nicsperling) February 29, 2016
But some weren’t too impressed:
of course mark rylance won but wouldn't you all like rocky to have won ?
— Andrew Loog Oldham (@loogoldham) February 29, 2016
Sly losing is a travesty. Mark Rylance spoke more in his acceptance speech than he did in the entire Bridge of Spies movie. #Oscars

Spotlight and The Revenant may have scooped the major awards, but Mad Max dominated, bagging six awards, mainly for behind-the-scenes roles:
Brilliant news to wake up to, so proud of all the Mad Max gang, thoroughly deserved ???? thank you for all the support! ? #WhatALovelyDay
— Nicholas Hoult (@NicholasHoult) February 29, 2016
I can't watch right now but I hear Mad Max is winning things and I am pleased.
— Evie Nagy (@EvieN) February 29, 2016
But some people just couldn’t handle their multiple wins:
I swear if Mad Max: Fury Road wins one more Oscar I might punch a hole through my tv. ?
— Olivia Pineiro (@Liv__4__life) February 29, 2016
I swear if Mad Max wins best picture I quit

I swear if I hear Mad Max get called up one more time I'm going to need a new TV.

While others didn’t think their trophy haul was enough:
