The Academy Awards ceremony rolled in to Hollywood last night and everyone was struggling to call who would be the big winners at the ceremony.

Among the highlights certainly, was Leonardo Di Caprio finally bagging his first Academy Award, and it’s fair to say it pretty much broke the internet.

And everyone got very emotional about Kate Winslet’s reaction to his win:

But it seemed Leo was more interested in his food than a statuette:

In other highlights, host Chris Rock addressed the controversy behind the lack of diversity among this year’s nominees head on in his opening monologue, and it’s fair to say he didn’t pull any punches.

The ceremony had been boycotted by some major Hollywood figures protesting about the lack of diversity among this year’s nominees, as all 20 nominees in the best acting or supporting acting categories were white, with surprise exclusions for Straight Outta Compton and Beast Of No Nation, among others.

He referred to the ceremony as the ‘White People’s Choice Awards’ and made a few close to the knuckle jokes, but it seemed to go down well.

Spotlight won best picture, which came as quite a shock to many, with many tipping either The Revenant or The Big Short for the win.

But it seemed a popular choice among many:

Mark Rylance, was a bit of a surprise winner as Best Supporting Actor. Many were expecting Sylvester Stallone to walk away with it, after reprising his role as Rocky Balboa in Creed:

But some weren’t too impressed:

Spotlight and The Revenant may have scooped the major awards, but Mad Max dominated, bagging six awards, mainly for behind-the-scenes roles:

But some people just couldn’t handle their multiple wins:

While others didn’t think their trophy haul was enough:

What a year.

All we can say is roll on Oscars 2017!
