Apparently the end of the world as we know it wouldn’t be all bad, in fact it would be a beautiful sight to behold according to one photographer.
Porter Tinsley, who witnessed the launch of a nuclear-capable Trident missile in the U.S. earlier this month has described the ‘terrible beauty’ he encountered on his shoot:
One thing that bothers me about my photo is that it actually doesn’t show exactly how pretty the ballooning blue halo really was. I couldn’t amp the colour without wrecking the contrast and so the image is as close to what we saw but it was brighter than that. And it all happened without sound. It feels sort of gross to say that because of how scared I was.
Of course a serious nuclear conflict would leave us in the terrifying situation of ‘nuclear winter’. Carbon thrown into the air would cause an enormous drop in worldwide temperature, affecting global rainfall and the growing seasons for crops – ultimately leaving the few survivors little more than a toxic wasteland to inhabit.
But at least it would look nice.
