A husband has learned to drive at the age of 79 in order to ‘chauffeur’ his wife to hospital.

Keith Limbert, from Gartforth, West Yorkshire, first took driving lessons in his youth but never made it to the test stage.

79-year-old wife Anne took the wheel instead over the course of their 58-year-long marriage.

After Anne tragically suffered a stroke in October 2015, Keith decided to give the whole driving thing another go.

Anne lost her ability to drive following the stroke, leading hubby Keith back to taking driving lessons, which he ended up passing third time after two failed attempts.

Today, Keith happily ferries himself and Anne around in his Vauxhall Corsa.

More importantly, than anything else, he can take her to hospital to receive treatment for breast cancer following a second diagnosis 18 months ago.

He said:

My wife drove me around for 40 years, she passed first time in 1972 and I didn’t know how good I had it.

She would take me to race meetings and that meant I could have a drink… or two.

I was chauffeur driven to be honest. She’s looked after me long enough and I think it’s about time for me to look after her now.

I owe her.

Keith, who lifts weights in his downtime, said he doesn’t ‘feel like I am 79 at all.’

He and Anne met when they were just 16-years-old and have three children together.

Daughter Shelley, 54, said:

After mum’s stroke, things changed for everybody. Now dad being able to drive has given them a new lease of life.

If Keith can do it, so can we all. What an inspiration.
