An Amazon delivery driver has had his life changed forever after a letterbox cut the top of his finger off.

30-year-old Husam Aljuburi had been delivering his 28th parcel of the day for Amazon – being about halfway through his shift in Slough – when the unthinkable happened.

As he had done many times before, Husam slid an A5 parcel through a customer’s letterbox. However, when he pulled his hand back, the top part of his middle finger became trapped in the flap and was completely cut away.

Husam was able to get the attention of a a passerby, who call emergency services. A paramedic was able to retrieve the severed fingertip, placing it inside a plastic bag packed with ice.

Sadly, Medics were unable to reattach Husam’s finger, and the dad-of-one had to endure a 45 minute operation where even more of his finger was removed so it could be stitched up correctly.

Husam then got a taxi back to the house where the nightmare accident took place to collect the remainder of the parcels he’d left in his car. It was here he saw the homeowner cleaning away pools of blood spilled during the injury.

You can find out more about Husam’s painful ordeal in the following clip:

Husan has since spoken out about the way his life has been forever affected by this horrific injury:

I’m right-handed so my life has been completely changed. PlayStation is going to be a struggle now with the controller. I like playing table tennis too but I suppose that’s going to be a lot harder now.

Say if I meet the woman of my dreams I’m always going to be weary now as I’m missing a part of me. I know there are people worse off than me and have lost limbs but I’m still in shock.

He added:

I’ve made 100,000 deliveries so I know what I’m doing. It was something like a book or a DVD. It was a slim parcel so decided to put it through the letterbox. I put my hand in with all four fingers intact and then seconds later a quarter of my middle finger was off.

To be honest I didn’t feel anything but I was screaming like mad. I think it was the shock. I just don’t know how it happened and I’ve never had anything like this happen to me before.

I tend to do that as much as I can as you get customers complaining they haven’t received their parcel if you leave it outside. It’s not worth leaving things outside so wherever I can put a parcel through the letterbox I do. But look where that’s got me.

Unfortunately, Husam does not feel he has had the correct amount of support from his place of employment.

Husam has claimed his accident was simply ‘shrugged off’ when he rang Amazon up to inform them. He has also alleged he was told to return undelivered parcels to the depot or else run the risk not getting paid.

An Amazon spokesperson has made the following statement:

Safety is Amazon’s number one priority.

We continue to be in close contact with the driver, wish him a speedy recovery and are sorry that he feels we did not handle the matter correctly.

We have investigated the matter and will take appropriate action.
