Barista Has Perfect Response To Racist Customer

A woman has spoken out after a customer refused to be served by her in a cafe – because she is black.

Josie Ajak was working in the Gloria Jeans coffee shop in Cairns, Queensland, when the unnamed woman refused to be served by her because of the colour of her skin, reports The Mirror.

According to Josie the woman told her: “Get me a white lady.” Shocked, the barista told her ‘that’s fine’ and moved aside, before telling staff about the racism and that the woman shouldn’t be served.

Josie moved to Australia from South Sudan with her parents when she was just eight – so has spent most of her life in the country she now calls home.

She told ABC:

When we first came to Australia, in primary school and a bit in high school as well, I got the ‘Why are you here? Go back to where you came from’ line.

But that was all left behind, I haven’t heard any of those kind of remarks for a while, and then this happened just a couple of days ago.

In response, Josie’s friend, Jade Arevalo, decided to launch a campaign to urge others to come in and buy coffee – and to order white hot chocolate for some amusing irony.

She wrote:

Josie is one of the most kind and friendly people you could meet.

What makes it worse is that this nasty lady who asked for another staff member travels in a wheelchair and could quite possibly understand a life made difficult by others assuming less of her.

Since the incident, Josie also posted her own message to Facebook thanking people for their support.

I would like to thank every kind soul who has shown me love and support since I was the target of racial discrimination…

She wrote:

I have been inundated with so many beautiful messages from both friends and complete strangers that have left me feeling blessed.

Regardless of which colour, gender, age, size, and shape you are, we are all deserving of love and should be treated accordingly.

I think we can all agree on that!
