A young boy left an adorable note on the scales his self-conscious mum used to weigh herself every day.
Kelly McCarron, 35, from Perth, Australia, has been trying to lose weight along with her husband Ruairi, 37, for the past six months.
Admitting that she weighs herself more often than she should, Kelly said she has changed her diet and exercise regime in a bid to get into shape.
The mum-of-two used to weigh 55 kg, but says in the past two years she’s put on nine kilos which has been getting her down.
Kelly and Ruairi have been trying new ways to lose weight, including fasting for 16 hours followed by eight hours of eating in moderation each day.
Kelly explained:
My husband and I have been trying to get fit since January. Ruarai has lost nine kilos but I haven’t.
I used to weigh 55kg but now currently weigh 64kg so I’ve put on 9kg in the last two odd years, which I understand isn’t obese but I would like to get back to my old self.
Stating that she usually ends up ‘putting herself last’ because she has two children to look after, Kelly says she often turns to food for comfort and ends up weighing herself way too often.
But her 12-year-old son, Jack, recently changed her feelings towards the scales when he left her a sweet note one morning.
The 35-year-old said:
I am pretty hard on myself but when you have two children to look after, you end up putting yourself last. Jack and Ayla, eight, were being super helpful around the house last week which I found strange as they have never done this before.
But I thought I will enjoy it whilst I can, and then the following day I saw a piece of paper on the scales. I was going to throw it in the bin.
Glad that she didn’t, Kelly saw that the note read: ‘does it matter?’ Which, she then realised, ‘it absolutely doesn’t’, it also dawned she’d usually weigh herself when she wasn’t feeling great anyway.
Deciding to keep the message on the scales to prevent her from religiously weighing herself, now Kelly has decided to take pictures of herself to see her progression instead.
The mum-of-two said:
Sometimes my daughter steps on and copies me and I tell her immediately to get off and remind her she doesn’t need to weigh herself. The note from Jack made me realise, I should take my own advice and stop it also.
Kelly asked Jack why he wrote the adorable note and he said it was just to be ‘nice,’ but the mum has other ideas as to why he might have written it (hint: it involves wanting a new Nintendo game).
Regardless of the boy’s motives, Kelly says his note has ‘really helped’ her feel better about her body.
The mum has realised she doesn’t need to lose weight – she just wants to have a healthier lifestyle.
And Jack got his new game after all, so everyone was a winner!
