Just hours after Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt announced their imminent separation, the Fight Club actor dropped the trailer for his new film, Allied.

Yesterday, Angelina Jolie filed for divorce on the grounds of irreconcilable differences. Immediately, the Hollywood rumour mill began to churn out stories with claims of Brad’s substance abuse, parental shortcomings and – most damning of all – an alleged affair with his Allied co-star Marion Cotillard.

Then, as if by the magic of PR, the trailer for Academy Award-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis’s WW2 epic dropped. And obviously, the world paid attention.

Pitt had been filming Allied with co-star Cotillard across London and Europe for the past few months leading up to the (genuinely) shocking announcement that he and Angelina are to separate.

The actor has since broken his silence on the split from his wife of two years, partner of 12 and mother to their six adopted children.

He told People:

I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.

Meanwhile, Allied will be released in the U.S. and UK in November.

Whether or not the unfortunate timing of the trailer release was intentional, we’re sure the movie is going to do well off the back of this sad news.

Allied sees Pitt and Cotillard romance their way across Europe shooting Nazis. The 60-second trailer obliquely hints at a character twist that is not too dissimilar to the double agent plot line of 2004’s Mr and Mrs Smith – the film on the set of which Brad and Angelina reportedly fell in love.

Is this all one colossal coincidence or has Hollywood become just as manufactured as the music industry?

Whatever is going through Angelina Jolie’s head right now, we’re guessing she’s one of the few people in the world who hasn’t seen her soon-to-be ex-husband calling another woman beautiful on the silver screen.
