Brand New £80k Range Rovers Have Roofs Ripped Off In Bridge Crash

If you’re anything like me, you will have probably had days at work where you’ve wondered if you’d have been better off staying at home.

You know the ones – you spill a cup of coffee all over your work, you turn up late and miss an important meeting, you have an argument with your boss etc…

We’ve probably never had as bad a day at work as this lorry driver though, who was transporting brand new Range Rovers earlier today (October 24) when the vehicle crashed into a rail bridge.

The incident happened at 8.30am this morning when the driver transporting the 4x4s ploughed through a railway bridge in Perth, Scotland. Some of the vehicles on the lorry still had their plastic on.

As a result of the crash, several of the Range Rovers had their roofs ripped off, resulting in extensive damage to at least four of the vehicles.

Each luxury vehicle cost at least £80,000 each, putting the cost of the damage likely into the hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Gareth Ruddock, 40, was passing by when he witnessed the aftermath of the crash:

The police were there brushing up the bits and pieces which had broken off. The driver was there looking a bit unhappy.

Nobody was hurt but it wasn’t a good day for that fella. I think pretty much all the cars on the top were damaged, but as they got further back the damage was lesser.

According to the Daily Record, Police Scotland have advised the road remain partially closed while an investigation is carried out.

Network Rail Scotland engineers attended the scene and have since announced that the bridge is ‘fit for rail traffic’.

In a Twitter post, they said:

Following a lorry striking a bridge in #Perth… Bridge has been inspected and has been passed fit for rail traffic.

Cant say the same for the vehicle(s) that struck it… #CheckYourHeight

A spokesman for Calson Vehicle Transport Ltd, the company responsible for the transporter, said, according to the Daily Record:

Due to an ongoing police investigation it would be inappropriate to comment on the incident however the company will fully cooperate with any investigation.

This incident is reminiscent of the time a woman bought a brand new, £500,000 Ferrari and crashed it just seconds after leaving the dealership.

The car, which had been imported from China, was written off in the crash but miraculously the driver and passengers escaped with minor injuries.

The video shows the red sports car crashing through a barrier into oncoming traffic, smashing into a BMW 4×4 in the process.

Traffic cameras on the busy city centre road caught the moment the woman suddenly lost control of the car, swerving and smashing head-on into a metal traffic barrier and another car which then collides with an unsuspecting black Nissan saloon.

Footage taken by witnesses in the aftermath of the accident shows the front end of the Ferrari 458 completely destroyed, with its airbags deployed.

Thankfully, nobody was seriously hurt in either incident but it does put me off driving for the time being…
