A bride-to-be called off her wedding two days before the big day was due to take place after discovering her fiancé’s dark secret.
35-year-old Tiana was working on the final touches for her upcoming wedding to her long-term boyfriend Matt, who she had dated for seven years.
Keen to start a family soon, the couple decided to have a ‘no fuss wedding’, something Tania felt ‘super excited about’.
Speaking to Honey, Tiana said while she thought she would make it with Matt, she ‘was wrong’.
The couple had many arguments while planning the wedding, disagreeing on the location and who should be there.
Tiana explained:
We’d had a few arguments about the wedding list. He had a cousin who was always very rude to me, always fat shaming me as I’d put on a fair amount of weight. I managed to lose a lot of weight before the wedding but I was still feeling hurt that he wanted his cousin to come. So I put my foot down and let Matt know I wouldn’t marry him if his nasty cousin was there. He ended up letting me have my way, but he was pretty angry about it.
There were other things we were fighting about, such as he wanted six groomsmen which I thought was over the top. He always wanted to be married at the beach and I’d always said I only wanted a church wedding.
The pair got over their arguments though, putting it down to the stress of planning a wedding.
As Tiana said, ‘things were okay again’, but events took a turn two days before the wedding date.
Visiting the church where she would marry Matt, Tiana was busy sorting out last minute details with her mum, sister and best friend Anne.
Anne took Tiana aside saying she needed to speak urgently adding ‘this can’t wait’.
Taking Tiana outside, Anne showed the bride-to-be something on her phone which ‘shocked [Tiana] so much [she] still can’t believe it’.
Anne had brought up Tinder and showed Tiana the profile of a man who turned out to be Matt, her fiancé.
Tiana was devastated, and said:
At first, I hardly recognised him as he had his shirt off and sunglasses on. But as she showed me other photos there was no denying who it was – Matt!
I must have stood there for ages just speechless, my mouth wide open. I think I said, ‘No way, no way’ over and over again.
I sat down on the grass and spent time looking at his profile. The way he described himself was as though he was a young, single man. I knew I had to call off the wedding. I went inside to get my sister and mum and explained it all to them. I was just so upset, I think I was in shock.
Too upset to speak to Matt, Tiana stayed at her parents’ house and let her sister break the news to him the wedding was off.
Tiana emailed Matt telling him to contact the guests and let them know the reason the wedding had been cancelled.
He accepted and ‘didn’t exactly fight to keep [Tiana]’.
According to Tiana, he is now in a serious relationship with another woman.
