Apparently even the dangerous criminal Charles Bronson needs some love in his life and his proposal was nothing but eccentric.

The 64-year-old former armed robber, dubbed ‘Britain’s most notorious criminal,’ clearly needed an injection of romance on Valentine’s day, the Mirror reports.

The famous convict who is currently locked up for life, took it upon himself to propose to his Coronation Street girlfriend in a rather unconventional way…

Instead of just the classic down-on-one-knee gesture, he decided to get a bit creative and conjured up a bit of Frank Sinatra to bag his bride.

In a brilliant twist of irony, the convicted jewellery robber sent a diamond ring to actress Paula Williamson’s house yesterday and called her up with an unusual message.

Apparently not one for a soppy love song, the criminal chose crooner, Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way,’ to sing seductively down the phone at his bride-to-be.

Old Bialey

He added his own take to the old classic, by renaming it ‘Our Way,’ and changed the lyrics to suit him better with ‘Regrets, we have none’ and they’ve brought ‘dark times into the light.’

Throughout his version of the song, Bronson made his bizarre proposal, weaving Sinatra’s lyrics among his own.

He sang:

And now the start is here, and so we face our life together.

My Paula, I’ll say it clear, I’ll spend my life of which I’m certain.

We’ve lived a crazy life and travelled in and out of darkness.

But more, much more than this we did it our way.

We planned this lovely day and I saved up for a diamond ring.

But more, much more than this, this is our day.

The 36-year-old soap actress did not seem taken aback by any of this, instead declared her undying love all the more for the infamous robber.

She told the Mirror:

We are so in love.

I’ve had relationships with both men and women in the past but none of them come close to my love for Charlie.

He’s so eccentric, but so am I. It’s a perfect match.

I know he has a public image of being a violent prisoner, but in reality he is so different.

He has done a lot of artwork for me and I really treasure each and every one.

He can never change the things he has done in the past, but he is working so hard to put that behind him

The scandalous criminal has spent 41 years of his life behind bars, with 37 of those in solitary confinement.

His sentences have been increased due to his tendency to attack prison guards and take them hostage…

Even more bizarrely, he has now reportedly taken up art and goes under the name, ‘Charles Salvador,’ in honour of the iconic artist ‘Salvador Dali’ who Bronson apparently admires.

What a weird way to propose…

Then again nothing about Bronson’s life has been average so I guess it was always going to be something odd…
