Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley took to Instagram last night to share a message about the dangers of social media.
We’re all used to those infuriating Instagram selfies of people claiming they’ve just woken up (they haven’t), wearing no make-up (they are) and used no filter to alter the image (they did).
Well it seemed Ridley had done the exact same last night when she shared a photo with the words, ‘I woke up like this #nofilter #nomakeup’ across the image. However, the caption told a very different story.
She said:
3 of these statements aren’t true. Social media is great but also a bit scary cause what people post is the most filtered, most carefully chosen and cleverly edited moments of their lives.
She’s been no stranger to speaking out about body shaming, after she shut down one troll who circulated a meme about her.
The meme featured a picture of Ridley’s character Rey, next to a speech bubble that read:
I can’t believe the unrealistic expectations I’m setting for young girls. Who cast me anyway? Don’t they know real women have curves?
Ridley then hit back at the image:
Well said Daisy, well said.
