As Ryan accepted the award for ‘Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy’ for his effervescent performance in La La Land, he praised his family openly.
In a particularly touching tribute, he dedicated the award to his wife’s brother, Juan Carlos Mendes, who passed away after a gruelling cancer battle.
At the glittering ceremony, the 36-year-old actor said:
You don’t get to be up here without standing on the shoulders of a mountain of people, and there’s just no time to thank everyone…
I’d like to try and thank one person properly and say that while I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer.
If she hadn’t taken all that on so I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today so, sweetheart; thank you.

In response to Ryan’s Golden Globes speech, Eva stayed true to the low-key romance, posting a wonderfully humble photograph to Instagram.
In a cryptic caption, she wrote:
