No home is complete without a sofa, a piece of furniture which just doesn’t get enough praise these days.

If you’re like me, the best part of any day is finishing work, coming home and enjoying a glass of wine on the sofa while watching some rubbish on the television.

But the sofa goes through much more than a few warm bums in its lifetime…

In fact, the average sofa has witnessed 1,236 arguments, had 2,728 food and drink spillages on it, seen guys sleeping on it 191 times after being kicked out of bed and watched 3,135 films.

This is according to a new study by Furniture Village, who looked into what a sofa goes through during its average 11-year life span.

The survey included 2,000 people and also showed a sofa will see couples kiss 2,105 times people, watch a total of 6,509 hours of TV and play 1,430 hours of computer games.

Despite all the action the average sofa sees, amazingly 14 per cent of people admit they have never cleaned it.

A sofa is one of the most used and best-loved pieces of furniture in our home.

Far from just being a place to sit, it can be the scene of many pivotal moments in family life – whether it’s arguments and the subsequent making up or a power nap after a long day.

And for many, being able to collapse into your spot on the sofa at the end of the day can be a highlight.

But the sheer amount of time that we spend sat on a sofa, along with the number of activities we do while lounging on it can mean it needs to stand up to a lot of wear and tear – particularly if you have children.
