Filmmaker Kevin Smith has invited Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee to live with him following allegations of elder abuse.

The creator of numerous superheroes including Black Panther, Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk has been in the news recently after astonishing revelations surfaced alleging that members of Lee’s inner circle have been misusing his fortune.

Providing details of a document reportedly written by Lee and his then lawyer, The Hollywood Reporter article describes the battle over the icon’s estate following the death of his wife at the age of 95 last July.

Standing at the centre of a battle for his estate and care, The Hollywood Reporter writes Lee could lose his fortune with one friend being quoted as saying ‘he’s in need of a superhero himself’.

The document obtained by the entertainment website explains how Lee and his wife had a prearranged trust set up for their 67-year-old daughter Joan Celia, known as JC, as she often had economic troubles.

It read:

Throughout her adult life, JC has never held any meaningful job, has not been gainfully employed and has not generated any significant income from (i) salary and wages, (ii) investments, and (iii) any business, assets or other tangible property.

As a result of the foregoing, JC has been unable to be self-supporting and self-sustaining throughout her adult life.

Whenever Joan and I created a budget for JC, she has almost invariably exceeded it.

When Joan and I have given JC money, she has always demanded ‘more, more, more’.

It is not uncommon for JC to charge, in any given month, $20,000 to $40,000 on credit cards, sometimes more.

In her interaction with me, when JC and I disagree, which is often, she typically yells and screams at me and cries hysterically if I do not capitulate to her demands.

Lee added JC often demanded changes be made to her trust which he denied because they ‘would greatly increase the likelihood of her greatest fear: that after my death, she will become homeless and destitute’.

The document then explains how three men described as having ‘bad intentions’ had improperly influenced his daughter taking advantage of the fact she has ‘very few adult friends’.

It is claimed Jerardo ‘Jerry’ Olivarez, Keya Morgan and JC’s attorney, Kirk Schenck all ‘insinuated themselves into relationships with JC for an ulterior motive and purpose’ mainly to ‘gain control over [Lee’s] assets, property and money’.

Although Lee has since distanced himself from the document and strenuously denied the claims in videos sent to The Hollywood Reporter, fans are still coming together to show their support including filmmaker and super fan Kevin Smith.

The Clerks director wrote on Twitter:

This is heartbreaking. We love you, Stan Lee. You are always welcome to come live with me – or please let us fans buy you a new place to live. We miss you, sir.

Others from the industry including actors Seth Green and Felicia Day also shared the story writing they are happy to help.

Lee has since further denied the claims in a video sent to TMZ calling it ‘nothing but slander’.
