Controversial comedian Frankie Boyle has proven he still has a penchant for pushing taste to the limit after coming in second place with a savage joke about Hitler at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The master of the dark arts, who was pipped by fellow comedian Ken Cheng, dropped a savage line pointing out the difference between Hitler and current U.S. President, Donald Trump.

Ever since his election into America’s highest office, political analysts (and pretty much anyone with an Internet connection) have drawn comparisons between Trump and the leader of the Third Reich, however Boyle thought the pair share absolutely nothing in common.

He told Fringe-goers:

Trump’s nothing like Hitler. There’s no way he could write a book.

This earned him second place in Dave’s Funniest Joke of the Fringe, with the top spot going to the Cambridge educated comedian Cheng, who pulled out this little gem about money.

Cheng’s award winning one-liner:

I’m not a fan of the new pound coin, but then again, I hate all change.

Cheng walked off with 33 per cent of the audience vote, beating the likes of Boyle, Alexei Sayle and Lew Fitz.
