Yesterday footage emerged of a woman brazenly stealing an Uber driver’s tips in New York City.
The woman was with two of her friends in the Big Apple and – wearing a black bra and skirt – sneakily slipped her hand into the tip jar before making a dash.
She stared openly into the camera with a smirk on her face as she pilfered the hard-earned dollars.

She seems to have a slight moment of conscience when she lifts her hands out of the jar for just a moment, but then decides to go for it anyway.
Obviously, she was never going to get away with it and in the age of the internet, it only took one day of viral attention for the ID of the girl to be made known.
The 18-year-old has been identified on Instagram as Gabrielle Canales, from Brooklyn.
Canales’ Instagram has been deleted since been identified, though reports say she seemed to show no remorse on social media about her crimes.
She shared screenshots of articles about herself on her various social media platforms and said she ‘only’ stole $5 which she returned to the man later.
However, according to the driver, Canales’ version of events is untrue as he says Uber dropped the investigation when Canales claimed she hadn’t stolen the money.
The driver reported the incident to Uber, only to receive the following response:
We understand your frustration with this experience. We’ve attempted to contact the rider by phone and email, but haven’t been able to resolve this issue.
The rider responded to us and advised us that she didn’t steal your cash from the tip jar.
If you believe the rider has your cash as captured from your dash cam and is refusing to return it, you may want to initiate a formal investigation via the police.
Uber told him to take the matter to the police if he wanted to pursue justice further, but the man says he was too busy.
Since the video of the theft has gone viral, Uber have contacted the driver for more support and have banned Canales from using the app in the future.
Uber told the Daily Mail:
What’s been shown has no place on our app and the rider’s access to the app has been removed.
Oops.. she blocked me! 😥

People were understandably angry about the incident after the footage went viral.
One person on Reddit described the crime as ‘a special kind of low’.
Another noted; ‘From an Uber driver too, they have to work hard to earn a living’.
One former taxi driver shared their personal experience of being mistreated by passengers:
I drove taxi for a while and you’d be surprised how violent and petty people will be over $10.
I’ve been spit on, punched, called all kinds of names simply for asking for the money owed to me on the meter.
I can totally see them stealing tips without a second thought.
Let’s hope she gets her comeuppance.
