A 16-year-old who hasn’t cut her fingernails since 2014, has now started to grow her toenails.
When you’re already known for having excessively long fingernails, the novelty might start to wear off? So what do you do when you’re levelled with this kind of predicament?
I guess you could take a leaf out of Simone Taylor’s book and start growing your toenails, it keeps things interesting I suppose?
The teenager from Nuremberg, Germany has spent almost three years growing her nails, much to the joy of her 11.7K Instagram followers – she’s going to complete the whole set by not cutting the nails on her tootsies.
Taylor would spend approximately three hours painting her 15 cm long nails, and since choosing to grow them, she’s seen her grades drop as well as being exempt from taking part in PE classes.
However this didn’t deter her, she’s learnt how to type and write again and takes extra precaution when showering and getting dressed, to avoid any painful breakages.
At the time, the German teenager told The Sun:
I have exams at the moment and it’s hard to write, after one hour of writing my hands really hurt. On the computer, I have to type using my knuckles.
Luckily, German schools don’t have dress codes, so they don’t cause any issues there.
PE is a huge problem though. I can’t play volleyball, basketball or anything similar. My PE teachers are always trying to convince me to cut my nails. They’ll never succeed in convincing me – but that makes my grades in PE really bad.
As mentioned before, her obsession with growing her nails began in 2014 after she watched a few tutorials on how to paint nails – she noticed a lot of the artists in the videos had long nails and decided to follow suit.
Although she’s now scared of nail clippers she also claims she never intended her nails to grow as long as they are now.
She went on to say:
It wasn’t my intention to grow them so long, but as they grew, so did the amount of compliments and they became more and more a part of me.
During my first year, I always thought to myself, ‘I’m gonna cut them tomorrow,’ but I never did.
As of April 2017, Simone’s thumbnails were measured at an incredible 14.8cm, while her fingernails were at least 11.8cm.
When painting her nails she has to apply two base coats and a top coat and usually takes around 90 minutes to remove polish. Now she’s growing her toenails I can only imagine it’ll take double the time?
To keep her nails strong Simone applies two coats of nail hardener and cuticle oil. In order to keep them hygienic, she cleans the undersides with a cotton bud every day.
While she says going to the toilet isn’t a problem it’s still one of the first questions people ask her when they see her nails for the first time.
Simone adds:
Funnily enough, a lot of people ask the toilet question when they see my nails for the first time.
Showering is a bit more difficult.
Sometimes my nails get caught in my hair, so I have to be extra careful.
With nails like Simone’s the care and maintenance seems more trouble than it’s worth?
However, you’ll be surprised to know she’s only ever broken them once – when she climbed a gate. As she jumped down, her middle finger got caught and broke.
Speaking about the incident she said:
I was crying and remember screaming, ‘Why my nail? Anything but my nail.’
Fortunately, I had my nail glue with me, so I was able to fix it. I’ll never leave the house again without my magical glue.
Simone still runs her Instagram account dedicated to her nails and has won online contests for long, natural nails, including 2016’s Nailslong contest.
She has her fans but because this is the Internet, where opinions are like farts, she has her fair share of detractors and trolls.
However, she doesn’t let the negativity get to her. Good for you Simone!
