This is the moment a provocative carnivore made his point by eating a raw steak outside a major city’s first Vegan Food Festival.
The ponytailed rabble-rouser, wearing a black vest bearing the slogan, ‘Go vegan and die,’ was questioned by cops after disgusted vegans complained about his protest.
They said blood was ‘literally dripping off the piece of meat’ as vegans queued up to enter the Vegan Food Festival in the capital city of Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Footage filmed by an eyewitness on a mobile phone shows the man continuing to chew his way through the raw steak as shocked vegans complain to a police officer:
At one point, a woman can be heard crying in shock: ‘He is just eating it.’
A Vegan Food Festival spokesman said:
While it is of course not forbidden to eat raw meat, it was of course a shocking sight because there was a puddle of blood and fat.
Besides, there were lots of elderly people and children. At that time a special children’s programme was going on.
He added how festival goers had been shocked by the man’s actions as ‘we are not extreme vegans.’
The anti-vegan activist was joined in his unusual one-man protest in front of the entrance gates by an assistant and a cameraman.
The man, who didn’t reveal his name or what he’d hoped to achieve, left the site after about an hour.
The spokesman added:
At first he did not want to leave because it is not forbidden to stand just outside the festival terrain.
It was a weird protest by the gentleman. This festival is about having fun and sharing new experiences.
Police confirmed officers had been called to the festival grounds but said no arrests had been made, at the time of writing.
Last week, a group of vegan protestors found themselves up against some volatile butchers at Leeds’ Kirkgate Market, the finest in Europe in my own biased opinion.
Footage filmed at the market showed a group of vegans, who were there to raise awareness and highlight abuse within the agricultural industry, being hounded out of the shopping area by traders in the most savage way.
In the footage, shot by vegan protestor Ginette Lindstrom, a butcher could be seen taking some meat from his counter and swinging it into the faces of protesters, potentially splashing them in blood.
The clash continued outside where one of the traders apparently tried to wrestle a camera from one of the protesters.
Ginette has reported the incident to the police, and as such cannot comment on the repercussions either group are facing over the incident.
However, since the video has been released, Ginette has received both praise and abuse on social media.
The group had intended it to be a silent protest, using non-graphical placards to highlight their campaign.
What they didn’t realise is we’re living in 2018, and protests don’t make headlines unless they escalate in some form.
