A McDonald’s employee was shocked and delighted when one of her regular customers gifted her a car after hers broke down last year.
Wichita businessman Chris Ellis regularly visits the McDonald’s in south Hutchinson where Vicki Anderson works and the two quickly formed a friendship after she first served him at the drive-through in the second week of November.
When Vicki asked Chris recently whether he knew anyone selling a car after her vehicle died last autumn, the businessman realised this provided the perfect opportunity to thank the McDonald’s employee for always being friendly.
According to The Wichita Eagle, Vicki’s 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra broke down a few months ago.
The price to fix the car, $500, was more than the vehicle was worth, and Vicki had been searching for a replacement ever since.
Chris’s generosity though put a stop to the search when, on January 9, he gave Vicki a 2009 Pontiac GS for free.
It turns out Chris’s son Josh had recently purchased a new truck and was planning to sell his 2009 Pontiac GS.
When Chris asked him how much he wanted for the Pontiac, Josh said he would offer his dad a discounted price if it was for a good cause.
Purchasing the car, Chris and Josh ensured it was cleaned, changed the oil and had the tyres rotated before they surprised Vicki with it.
Working in the kitchen at the time Chris turned up, Vicki feared she was being fired when she was told a manager needed to see her as soon as possible up front.
Vicki’s fears quickly disappeared though when she spotted her manager filming her, standing next to Chris and his son Josh.
Chris took Vicki to the Pontiac outside and explained that it was now hers causing her to break down in tears of joy.

Speaking to The Wichita Eagle, Vicki explained how in the moment she was so shocked she was unsure how to react.
She said:
I didn’t know what to think. I thought he was kidding again. Who just does that? I mean really.
I don’t have that kind of luck.
Vicki plans to give rides to other employees who don’t have cars, something she used to do with her old vehicle saying ‘I believe that’s what God wants us to do — to help one another’.
Chris was delighted Vicki loved the surprise adding:
She was so friendly at the drive-up window, I looked forward to it every time.
Fate looked me in the eye when she told me that story [of the search for a new car]. I couldn’t stop thinking about it… I said, ‘I have to do something’.
Maybe the best day of my life. It was amazing. It’s still amazing. I watched the video today and cried twice.
I believe she’s going to make good with it. I really do.
Well, that’s my faith in humanity restored!
