Tampons should be an essential part of any doomsday survival kit apparently.
As reported by Konbini a human survival specialist has told the BBC’s Woman’s Hour that the flammable nature of tampons make them ideal as part of a fire-lighting kit in desperate situations.

Dr Sarita Robinson said:
In my grab bag I have a fire-lighting kit. In there I have a lighter, but in case the lighter runs out I have a fire steel, so I can strike and make sparks. And if you’re doing that what you really need is something that’s going to be really flammable.
Obviously cotton is very good, so compressed cotton that is then shrink-wrapped is ideal. So yeah, tampons to the rescue.
The survival tip is echoed by the The Art of Manliness who implore guys not to think of them as sanitary products for women, but as a ‘Tactical Adventure Medical Preparedness Outdoors Necessity (T.A.M.P.O.N.).’
They argue that tampons have 10 uses which could make all the difference in the wilderness. These include being used as kindling, as a bandage, as a water filter, as a straw filter, as a candle wick, as fletching on a blow dart, as a waterproof case for matches and tinder, and even as a bobber on fishing line.
So in cases of life and death survival you know where to turn, tampons and grubs.
