Farting is natural and there’s no use pretending yours don’t stink, but if they are particularly pungent don’t fret as help is at hand.

You might think it would be quite difficult to tackle gross smells with all the sprouts, turkey and pud about, but these fart-changing hacks could stop all that, the Mirror reports.

To find out the root of the stinky problem, scientists had to dig around among human poo before mixing it with different types of nutritional components to make their enlightening discovery.

The whiffs they unearthed were made worse depending on the levels of cysteine, which reassuringly, is found in everything we eat.

Things that contain certain types of protein such as meat and dairy are the worst offenders for foul smells, as the cysteine increases the levels of hydrogen sulphide gas in the stomach by seven times the original amount.

There are ways to tackle the protein pong though and that’s by adjusting your diet a tad.

Obviously adding extra things into your daily menu won’t transform your trumps into perfume anytime soon, but by introducing starchy foods into your life, you could dramatically reduce the stench.

Scientist Chu Yao at Monash University, Melbourne found that chomping down on potatoes, bananas, legumes, cereals, asparagus and artichokes could resist the stink of your wind by reducing hydrogen sulphide gas by 75 per cent.

She added:

This explains why bodybuilders who consume lots of protein powder are known to have smelly farts.

Well that’s really good to know.
