Repetitive meal options, cheesy cabaret entertainment, the constant feeling that it’s not the destination but the journey that’s important, these are the negatives that first come to mind about cruises.
Not exactly enough to make you want to jump overboard, but one man has discovered if you jump off the side of a cruise liner like a massive tool you won’t be allowed back on. Ever.
This guy’s been handed a life-time ban from travelling on Royal Caribbean cruises after he launched himself from his 11th floor balcony into the sea.
Nick Naydev, 27, from Vancouver, posted the vid of his dip in the Caribbean on Friday (January 18) showing the moment he decided to take an unorthodox approach to disembarking the Symphony of the Seas cruise ship.
In the comments Nick wrote the jump must have been about 110-120 feet.
If you’re wondering if it hurt. Then yes. It sounds like he didn’t come out unscathed.
Nick wrote:
My feet were actually fine. It was my neck and tailbone that hurt. Could barely walk for 3 days and could barely sleep from the pain. I’m good now.
After being picked up by a rescue vessel, he was told to get his stuff and leave. In the comments Nick revealed he had to spend $200 (£150) to get back to Miami.
While Nick dealt with the fall out from his jump, Konstantin Kryachun – who captured the moment – dealt with the ship’s authorities who weren’t best pleased with the guys’ actions and then kicked Nick’s accomplices from the cruise.
Kryachun told Yahoo Lifestyle:
He’s jumped from those kind of heights before, and we didn’t really care about the consequences with the cruise company. We just wanted to get a video of it and make it go viral.
Which kind of encapsulates the idiocy of our online generation in an easily digestible sound bite.
Needless to say the representatives from the cruise liner called the incident ‘stupid’.
A Royal Caribbean spokesperson told Yahoo Lifestyle:
This was stupid and reckless behavior, and he and his companions have been banned from ever sailing with us again. We are exploring legal action.
People in the comments aren’t taking a kind view on the lads “top bants”.
One person wrote:
Absolute loser. You’ll be forgotten in 48 hours. You have the full attention of Royal Caribbean’s lawyers though, have fun with that. They aren’t done with you by a long shot. Trust other ships won’t let you on either. You’re so ballsy do it in the states tough guy. See how much of your freedom the cops allow you to have.
Hope you enjoy the fame while it lasts guys.
