Mild panic broke out in Arakawa Amusement Park in Tokyo on Friday after Japan’s slowest rollercoaster derailed.

The coaster, known as the ‘Family Coaster’ suddenly derailed, and left seven adults and twelve children suspended about five metres above the ground.

The Family Coaster is advertised as the slowest coaster in Japan, but can reach ‘brisk jogging speeds’ at certain points on the ride.

It was reported that the wheel on the first car of the carriage had disengaged with the rail, which caused the entire ride to grind to a halt. Obviously people didn’t even know the train had derailed.

SoraNews24 reports a woman in her 30s who was on the ride at the time of the accident told Asahi Shimbun:

The coaster was moving so slowly, I didn’t notice it had stopped.

Things did get a little bit scarier, though, when park staff began hammering the train and tried to push the train without explaining to the people in the carriage what was going.

Customers began to call the emergency number 110 and rescue services arrived at the scene, and after 50 minutes, everybody was off the ride.

While Japan’s slowest ride is busy breaking down, folks at Disney are busy building what will probably be the most successful rides ever assembled.

That’s because Disney Parks have announced they’ll be introducing Marvel-themed areas, which will hit parks as early as 2020, according to Variety.

Thrill seekers will be treated to an Avengers and Spider-Man experience in California’s park, which will replace Pixar’s ‘A Bug’s Land’.

The superhero themed area will be a welcome addition to the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! ride which opened last year.

California’s park isn’t the only one which will be assembling the Avengers, there’ll also be Marvel areas hitting Paris and Hong Kong.

Disneyland Paris will be getting an experience which allows guests to team up with Iron Man and the Avengers as they go on an adventure – this will also open in 2020. The park will also treat park goers to a new live-action show.

In Hong Kong Disneyland, Marvel aficionados will be able to team up with Ant-Man and the Wasp on a new ride, which will run alongside the Iron Man experience which is already open at the park.

In January, we also reported on the upcoming Toy Story Land which is opening this summer, replete with everyone’s favourite cowboy and spaceman.

In the attraction, guests will be placed into the incredible world of Toy Story and made to feel like they’ve shrunk to the size of Andy’s favourite toys in his back garden.

Disney

There’ll be oversized versions of everybody’s favourite gang, including Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Mr Potato Head.

While all of these things sound absolutely great, as somebody who hates rollercoasters, I think I’ll take my chances on Japan’s slowest ride, which to be honest still sounds faster than I can handle.
