A New York woman had the shock of her life when she hired a cleaning company to tidy her apartment and they wrecked the place instead.
Genevieve Snow, 29, hired two women from Joanna’s Cleaning Service in Brooklyn, paying them $245 for four hours work.
She was expecting them to have finished by midday, however when her flatmate returned home at 5.30pm she was appalled at what she saw.

Now, I understand that sometimes we have ‘off’ days at work and don’t perform to our highest standards. But come on, really?!
The pictures show one of the cleaners lying on the apartment floor, surrounded by a cluster of items which obviously were not supposed to be there.
The woman had clearly made herself right at home, because she can also be seen sitting casually on the couch, barefoot with her feet up. The pure cheek of it!
Genevieve expressed her disgust at the service, saying:
They didn’t clean a thing, just drank all my liquor and f*cked up my home. My roommate came home to one of them blacked out face-down in our kitchen and the other long gone… and the apartment door was left open with my keys missing.
Genevieve’s flatmate, Kristen Nepomuceno, told the New York Post that she rang the police as soon as she found the maid in such a position. She then apparently left the apartment and waited for the police, before they all went back inside together.
She describes the scene when she walked back in:
She is licking ice cream and hammered, beyond hammered. She drank one whole bottle of Broker’s Gin and [most of] a bottle of Kettle [vodka].
Genevieve goes on to say that the cleaning service will not pay her back, meaning she is more than $400 out of pocket when you take into account the broken items as well.
In an email shared to Facebook, the alleged owner of the business, Joanna, told Genevieve that the cleaner in question didn’t usually behave this way and she was having ‘family problems’, explaining her behaviour.
Joanna offered to provide two cleaning appointments for free, but Genevieve rejected straightaway saying she wanted a full refund.
And you can’t exactly blame her – I certainly wouldn’t be letting them into my house if they’d done that to it!
The Facebook post gained popularity quite quickly, with concerned friends commenting that they couldn’t believe what had happened.
One person wrote:
Oh.my.gosh!!! I would be livid!!! Are there area Facebook pages? I would definitely blast them over and over again. Also on Yelp, Craigslist, and any other pages you can find.
Whilst another said:
In no way is that ok, and offering extra cleaning is a joke. I’m going to small claims with an ex for a $300 phone on my acct. Every little bit matters, that’s your money you’re entitled to compensation.
And another commented:
This is so unbelievable to the point I was reading at first and thinking ok it must be slightly exagger—- oh wait there is a photo of a passed out cleaning lady on the floor.
Enter a plot twist. According to the New York Post, a woman called Joanna Sokolowska got in touch with them — claiming her company, Joanna Cleaning Service, hadn’t cleaned Genevieve’s home since 2017.
She insisted Genevieve must have been tricked by another Joanna, Joanna Oltuszewska, who used to work at the company but was fired in 2013. She then apparently set up a rival cleaning company.
Sokolowska said:
I have nothing to hide. [Oltuszewska] was working with us — an independent worker. She left and opened her company … I am 100 per cent sure it was her.
Genevieve said it is possible that this is what happened, but that all that matters now is finding an address for whoever is responsible so that she can sue the business.
