Malia Obama has a boyfriend and apparently, the match was made in the upper echelons of society, as it turns out the British-born 19-year-old has links to the royal family.

The former first daughter, also 19, was followed and photographed kissing fellow Harvard student, Rory Farquharson, at the annual Harvard-Yale tailgate, just before the football game began.

The young couple, unaware of the cameras, enjoyed a quiet moment, subsequently splashed about Twitter:

While most of us are wondering when the ambitious young student will start making headlines for her brain rather than her romantic life, others are keen to know more about this English mystery man.

Well, here you have it: He was head boy at the prestigious Rugby School, a member of its chemistry club – The Blue Bunsen Society – and an athlete who represented the school in rugby and golf.

After completing his A-Levels and spending the summer as an intern with the Centre for Democracy and Peace Building in Northern Ireland, he started his studies at Harvard.

The Daily Mail have done some digging and as it turns out, he’s got royal links. His second cousin, Andrew Farquharson, was the Queen’s Assistant Master of the Household at Buckingham Palace.

Apparently the gentleman was one of the Queen’s most trusted aides – if his role in planning Buckingham Palace events and even persuading Her Majesty to stop buying Harrod’s Christmas puddings and lump with Tesco’s £7.75 treats instead, is anything to go by.

In 2006, Farquharson ended his duties with the Queen and took up a role with Prince Charles, as his Deputy Master of the Household at Clarence House.

In 2009 he was let go and is now the head of household at Alnwick Castle, in Northumberland.

However, he did organise the Queen’s parties for over a decade, as head of her entertainment team.

Chip off the old block, Rory, is also fond of a party too, according to his own words in the school magazine.

In a letter to his 16-year-old self, published by Meteor Magazine, Rory wrote:

To tell the truth you’re a lanky, over-confident public school boy, desperately trying to prove to your friends how much of a ‘lad’ you are and you have failed miserably.

And for goodness’ sake get a haircut. Despite what you think, your floppy mop isn’t attracting the girls.

Despite his ego-centric humility, the girls all thought Farquharson to be quite a catch, one school insider said, adding, ‘He was very popular’.

The boy’s hard-working too, apparently inspired by his family – or nepotism? Farquharson spent the summer as an intern with the Centre for Democracy and Peace Building in Northern Ireland.

His father 57-year-old Charles, is the chief executive of Insight Investment Management Limited based in London. His mother Catherine, 58, is a qualified and respected accountant who sits on tribunals.

Malia Obama, meanwhile, took a gap year before starting at Harvard this fall and is trying her damnedest to enjoy college life and all its trappings; namely, cigarettes she can legally smoke and dating whomever she pleases.

Seeking a career in film, Malia already has some impressive internships under her belt, including on the set of Girls and Extant. She also interned with disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

A year ago, her father, Barack Obama said Malia and his younger daughter Sasha had already started dating and he was ‘pretty relaxed’ about it.

Let’s leave them to it, shall we?
