An Indonesian man who claims to be the world’s oldest person by far says that he is ‘ready to die’.

Mbah Gotho is believed to be a staggering 145-years-old, according to documents recognised by officials in Indonesia.

If this information is legit, it would make him almost a quarter of a century older than the verified oldest person ever French woman Jeanne Calment, who lived to 122.

According to The Mirror, he has outlived all 10 of his siblings as well as his four wives, with the last dying in 1988.

All of his children have also died, and is now only survived by his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Mbah, from Sragen, Central Java, was recently interviewed by regional reporters, and it seems he doesn’t want to hold the record for long.

He told Liputan 6: “What I want is to die. My grandchildren are all independent.”

Mbah’s grandson Suryanto claimed that his granddad had been preparing for death for over 24 years and had already sorted out his gravestone too.

Staff at the Indonesian records office say they have confirmed Mbah’s birthdate, which is specified on his Indonesian ID card as December 31, 1870.

To put that into perspective, that would have made Mbah 30-years-old when Queen Victoria died and he would have been too old to serve in the First World War. Crazy stuff.

As you’d expect though, his age is open to question, as the paperwork has yet to be independently verified.

Others have previously claimed to have broken the record without having their age verified, such as 171-year-old James Olofintuyi from Nigeria and 163-year-old Dhaqabo Ebba from Ethiopia.

When asked what the secret to a long life is, Mbah simply replied ‘the recipe is just patience’. Something we can all live by.
