I’m sure we’ve all woken up at one time or another to an embarrassing, painful or downright horrific revelation after a night out, but I don’t think anything could top the discovery of a hacked-off penis.
The 44-year-old man, known by his surname Tan, woke up in the city of Huaihua in southern China’s Hunan Province to sharp pain and severe bleeding earlier this month.
Looking for the source of his pain, it wasn’t long before he realised his genitals had been cut by someone with a ‘sharp tool’, Chinese media reports, as per the MailOnline.
The Sanxiang City Express report the night before his horrendous realisation, on May 7, Tan had been out with friends.
He reportedly drank nearly half a litre of baijiu, a type of strong Chinese rice wine with an average alcohol content of 45 per cent, before losing consciousness.

Cue shudders from men everywhere as you imagine just how grotesque that situation would be.
The 44-year-old’s shocked family members quickly took him to seek medical attention, but despite visiting various hospitals, doctors were unable to reattach his penis.
Xiangya Hospital/WeiboThankfully, however, about eight hours later Tan was transferred to Xiangya Hospital, in the provincial capital of Changsha, where a special team made up of experts from various departments managed to stitch the sexual organ back on to the patient’s body in a seven-hour surgical operation.
The surgeons were also able to repair Tan’s urethra, spongy tissues and blood vessels.
In a video shared on Chinese social media site Weibo, Dr. Wu Panfeng, from the hospital’s Department of Hand Microsurgery, said the colour of Tan’s penis returned to normal a week after the procedure.
He said he expected the patient would be able to urinate by himself again after a couple of weeks, and added:
After that, we will team up with urology specialists and psychologists to treat the patient to help him achieve a normal sex life.
Although the 44-year-old was seriously injured from the incident, he decided not to tell the police. He reportedly also refused to tell his family who might have removed his penis, and their possible motives.
If hangovers and embarrassing memories don’t do the trick, that series of events would certainly be enough to put anyone off drinking.
