Whether you include friends and family, go all out with rose petals and balloons, or opt for a more low-key event, it seems like it’s all been done before.
One guy decided to leave it more up to chance, however, as his girlfriend unknowingly experienced a whole range of proposals before she finally had the ring on her finger.

30-year-old Edi Okoro, from Herefordshire in England, purchased a diamond ring for girlfriend Cally Read earlier this year, but he didn’t want to rush the process of popping the question.
Instead, he took pictures of Cally in various locations with the ring nearby. It was a risky game as she could have caught him at any moment, though I’m sure she would have been delighted no matter what.
Edi spoke about his decision to have some fun with the proposal on Facebook, explaining:
Those who have gone through this (and those who will soon find out), you want to propose in a way that speaks to you as a person and couple.
Some plan a flash mob, a fancy meal, or even arrange a marry me sign. I couldn’t do this because “Edi doesn’t plan”… I’m a spontaneous improviser.
The 30-year-old suspected his girlfriend would know something was going on if he attempted to plan an elaborate proposal, so instead he carried the ring with him and sneakily took pictures of it around an oblivious Cally, all the while waiting for the perfect moment in which he could pop the question.
He explained:
The idea was to take as many photos, in more daring scenarios, until I found the perfect moment to propose, or until I got caught, at which point I would propose!
The Facebook photo album ‘how I proposed to Cally’ is packed with pictures of Edi placing the ring in some daring and precarious positions.
One image showed the jewellery box balanced on Cally’s back while she lay in bed on her phone, while in another the ring was actually in the palm of her hand while she slept.
At one point, the mischievous man took advantage of the fact his girlfriend couldn’t see without her glasses and displayed the diamond right front of her.
After about a month of sneak-proposing, Edi finally popped the question for real.
He’s yet to share the tale of how the actual proposal took place, describing it as ‘a story for another time’, but he confirmed he never got caught while teasing Cally with the ring.
Thankfully she said yes and Edi shared another picture, this time with Cally very knowingly displaying her diamond ring.
So we did end up getting engaged, and no I didn’t get caught 😉…..but how I did it is a story for another time 🤣 stay…
