Banter is definitely the way to the heart for some people, as one man proved after falling head over heels for the woman who roasted him on Tinder.

Dating app users will know a good greeting is key, and while a lot of people opt for cheesy chat-up lines 28-year-old Jason Forry decided to take a more unique route, in the style of a job application.

In 2015, the Scot went viral after sharing his Tinder technique online. However, it wasn’t his approach which made him internet famous – it was the way he got brutally rejected by his match, Natalie Anderson.

He opened the chat by pretending he was Grant Aitchison, who worked as ‘head of recruitment’ for Jason’s romantic life. After matching with Natalie, he decided to offer her an ‘interview’.

He wrote:

Thanks for your interest in Jason, we have reviewed your profile and would like to invite you to an initial interview.

Jason is a very busy man so it would be ideal if you could just write a little about yourself, interests and such, good luck in your application.

Some women might have gone all out with their response, detailing past relationships, their hobbies and successes, and maybe even a reference or two.

Natalie, however, wasn’t having any of it.

She responded with a brisk and businesslike reply, claiming the pair had been matched by accident:

Upon receiving your message, it has been brought to our attention that there may have been some technical difficulties with the system that matched Natalie to Jason.

We accept full responsibility for this glitch and unfortunately upon reviewing Jason’s profile we find that Natalie is not compatible with your client and have to decline the interview on this occasion.

Kind regards, Natalie’s HR Team

Despite being shot down, Jason saw the funny side and decided to use the conversation as a way to win Natalie’s heart.

He messaged the 27-year-old and made a bet; if the screenshots of their conversation managed to achieve 200 likes online, she had to go on a date with him.

Speaking about what happened next, Jason explained:

I did get the 200. We went out for drinks on our first date – and drank so much my friend had to pick us up and take her home!

The couple went on a few more dates and decided to make it official in December 2015. One year later they moved in together, and even expanded their family with the addition of Marley, a cat from a local animal rescue centre.

Two-and-a-half years on the couple have gone viral once again – though no one got roasted this time.

Jason popped the question and shared a picture with Natalie showing off her engagement ring on Twitter, including the screenshots of their first exchange:

Mental that I’m gonna marry the girl who ripped the pish out on me on Tinder.

The post has been retweeted more than 4,000 times and has received over 60,000 likes, and the happy couple are hoping to tie the knot in 2021.

I’m sure neither of them expected the rejected interview to lead to a marriage proposal!

Amazing.
