Meghan Markle has paid tribute to Princess Diana on the first official day of her overseas royal tour, which she is attending with her husband Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex has been in the headlines everywhere you turn recently – from her marriage to Prince Harry earlier in the year to the announcement of her pregnancy yesterday (October 15).

And, let’s be honest, those aren’t going to stop anytime soon so you may as well get up to date on her recent escapades.

The royal couple arrived in Sydney yesterday for the first day of their overseas tour – which will also see them visiting New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga over 16 days.

Eager fans of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were waiting for them as they arrived, but they may have been too blown away by their presence (or staring at Meghan’s bump) to notice Meghan’s touching tribute to her mother-in-law.

The newly-pregnant royal was wearing a stunning pair of butterfly earrings, which at first glance may just seem like a fashion statement.

However, as the Daily Mail spotted, the exact same earrings were first worn by Princess Diana herself on her 1986 royal tour to Canada.

And this wasn’t the only piece of jewellery that drew attention to Meghan, as she continued to pay tribute to her mother-in-law in the loveliest way.

Meghan paired the earrings with a simple gold bracelet containing blue stones, which may not have caught people’s eye at a first glance.

However, the bracelet is also thought to have belonged to Princess Diana, who was pictured wearing it on several occasions.

This isn’t the first time the couple have paid tribute to Harry’s mother in such a way. When they announced their engagement in November 2017, Prince Harry made sure to pay tribute with the ring.

According to reports, the prince designed the engagement ring and made sure it featured a large diamond from Botswana and two smaller diamonds which were taken from Diana’s ‘personal collection’.

The engagement ring was made by Cleave and Company, Court Jewellers and Medallists to Her Majesty The Queen.

Prince Harry spoke with reporter Mishal Husain for the BBC after the couple’s engagement, alluding to how well Meghan would have got on with his late mother:

Oh they’d be thick as thieves, without question.

I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, you know so excited for me, but then, as I said, would have probably been best friends – best friends with Meghan.

The prince also went on to say how he wanted to include Diana’s diamonds in the engagement ring ‘to make sure she’s with us on this crazy journey together’.

And their journey is only getting more exciting! Meghan and Harry announced their pregnancy to the public yesterday (October 15), via a statement by Kensington Palace.
