Mel B threw shade at fellow Spice Girl Victoria Beckham by dressing up as Posh Spice for Halloween, but some fans think the costume was too much.
Of all the spices Mel could have dressed up as, the singer seemed to opt for the most controversial one. She could have been a punchy paprika or a mouthwatering cinnamon, or even made everyone happy by going as the inclusive allspice, but no.
Instead, the former X Factor host dressed as Posh Spice when she attended Heidi Klum’s annual Halloween party, wearing a black dress and mask with a picture of Victoria’s face stuck on.
She attended the party with her friend Gary, who helped turn Mel’s outfit into a couples costume by impersonating Victoria’s husband David Beckham, complete with an LA Galaxy football shirt.
GettyMel made a dig at the fact Posh Spice was reluctant to join the band for their reunion tour, which has been organised in celebration of the group’s 20th anniversary.
An insider spoke to The Sun about Victoria’s refusal to tour, saying:
The Spice Girls are in disarray. While Victoria has always insisted she’d never tour, the others believed [original manager] Simon would get her on board.
They had a £150million proposal in the offing — with a headline performance at Wembley — and even Mel C, who had previously been reluctant, was signed up.
With things still up in the air, there were a few heated debates between the girls and Victoria.
In keeping with the scary theme of Halloween, Mel brandished a battle axe at the party which highlighted Posh’s decision, with the words ‘NO I AM NOT GOING ON TOUR’ written across it.
Though she didn’t make reference to the dig directly, the singer shared a picture of her outfit to Instagram, writing:
Yesssss @heidiklum yippppeee first year coming to her party wow wow wow what an amazing Halloween party right now, seriously it’s on fire haha me and @gary_90210 never laughed soooo much [sic].
It’s a good job she enjoyed it at the time, because Mel might not be invited next year after the amount of backlash she received from fans for her costume!
One disapproving fan commented:
Someone’s claws are out !
Another was disappointed in Mel for her choice of outfit, writing:
omg the shade of it all smh, I’m disappointed
A third added:
I loved the spice girls since I was a little girl but @officialmelb ur wrong for this [sic]
While another commenter even went as far as to call Mel a bully, writing:
@officialmelb if you’re friendship with @victoriabeckham has broken down and your posting these photos on social media, that makes you a troll and a bully.
It’s not cool and sending out the wrong message stop bullying @victoriabeckham and @davidbeckham
Despite the negative reactions Mel received, many of her fans were amused by the costume and stuck up for her decision to wear it.
One supportive fan wrote:
Haha brilliant! I don’t see why anyone should be p*ssed off with you for dressing up as V and having a laugh, when she’s the misery who didn’t wanna do it in the first place. Still nice one melanie.
Maybe next year she should stick to a less controversial spice costume, just to be safe.
