Being in the secret service has always seemed so unattainable, but not anymore!

MI5 and MI6 are now hiring so if you get your application just right (and make sure you look great in a tux), then soon you could be a double agent.

This link will take you to the careers page for British Intelligence where you will find all the listings for MI5 (Security Service) and MI6 (Secret Intelligence Service).

All of the roles are based in London at their famous headquarters on the Thames, except for a software engineer role in Manchester.

MI5 safeguards the country against threats to national security including terrorism, espionage, cyber attacks, sabotage and the spread of weapons of mass destruction.

MI6 works secretly abroad to defend the UK’s interests by gathering foreign intelligence to disrupt terrorism, resolve conflict and protect the country’s people, economy and interests (that’s the James Bond one).

Even the building looks mysterious:

The jobs range from Business Analyst and Language Specialist, to IT support. They’re even looking for interns (started from the bottom…).

Along with all the ‘normal’ jobs lies the big one…Intelligence Officer. The deadline to become Bond is September 19.

Applicants must be British nationals, aged 21 or older and are required to have a minimum of a 2:2 degree or higher, or be expecting to achieve this and are in the final 6 months of completing your degree.

Some of the qualities they’re looking for are:

A drive to acquire knowledge and an ability to absorb new learning across a diverse range of subjects.

Exceptional interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. The ability to understand, interact and connect with a diverse range of people is central to what we do and defines a good officer

An interest in foreign culture is essential. Ability with foreign languages and technology are both advantages.

Apparently for candidates of exceptional ability there is the opportunity to be selected for our Fast Track managed programme.

In top-secret fashion, you are only allowed to discuss your application with your partner or a close family member, as long as they are British.

Successful applicants will be invited to a testing session (I would love to know what happens there) which will take place in London and are designed to test whether you have some of the core skills and competencies essential for the role. Then there is an interview, and the final stage of the recruitment process is a two day assessment centre.

Sho I don’t shee what you’ve got to loosh (obviously read in Sean Connery’s accent).
