As a Muslim living in America right now, you’d probably think the worst if an anonymous letter was left on your front door.
Especially after President Donald J. Trump’s divisive inaugural address yesterday.
But a Muslim family, from Cincinnati, Ohio, fortunately had a rather pleasant surprise as the note turned out to be full of positivity, compassion and love.
The letter read:
Today begins a new stage for our country. No matter what happens, please know there are still a lot of people who will fight for your right to practice your religion, to continue to live your lives without discrimination. You are welcome in our neighbourhood and if you need anything – please knock on our door.
Hend Amry, the niece of the home owner, shared the picture on Twitter after Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the U.S.
“This is the America that took us in as political refugees, the America that gave us a new home, & the America that keeps my hope alive today,” she added.
Her tweet has since been retweeted over 38,000 times and received more than 90,000 likes.
Many were delighted that empathy still exists in their nation:
But others were quick to cast doubt over whether the note was in fact genuine or not.
We hope it is the real deal, as it’s enough to restore some of our faith in humanity.
