Apparently what you’re called can help shape how much you earn, with some names being worth millions.

Before you go elsewhere, I’ve done the research, it costs £14 to change your name in the UK.

Weirdly it’s hundreds of dollars in to change your name in the US, so apologies to our skint American readers, you’ve all got great names already though.

Linda Rosenkrantz of Nameberry.com has been helping parents choose names for their kids for years and she’s come up with a list of names for boys and girls that means they’ve a good chance of getting disgustingly rich.

Nominative determinism is a term coined by New Scientist journalist John Hoyland. It’s the idea that your name dictates how your life will turn out – so Steven Baker is probably going to make bread and Bruce Butcher is going to be arms deep in sausages.

But according to BBC Radio 4 the idea can be traced back even further to 1952 when psychologist Karl Jung said; ‘sometimes quite grotesque coincidence between a man’s name and his peculiarities’.

So what names will make you rich? Maybe you already have one, or maybe you need to scrape together £14 to invest in your own future.

Here are the boys most likely to become millionaires:

Bill
William (or Will)
Amancio
Warren
Carlos
Jeff
Elon
Mark
Larry
Lawrence
Michael
Charles
David
Gerald
Roman
Charles
Richard

Will is definitely winning there, technically on the list three times because Bill is a nickname for William as well.

Also I’m pretty sure Bill is only on the list because of Bill Gates and his birth name is William Henry Gates III.

Actually when you dig into it a bit further it does look like Linda Rosenkrantz has just picked out a load of rich people’s names. Elon is definitely Elon Musk. Warren, Warren Buffett. Mark, Mark Zuckerberg.

Even Amancio, which I didn’t immediately recognise, is probably inspired from Spanish business tycoon Amancio Ortega who founded Zara.

Gina
Yelena
Iris
Susanne
Abigail
Muccia

What do you think, does your name have the power to dictate your future, or is this all nonsense aimed at gullible future parents?

Maybe it is the parents that are key, and it isn’t the name they choose that dictates what you become, but the sort of parents who are drawn to a name are likely to raise you in a certain way?
