Radical Muslim cleric Abu Qatada has urged Muslims to flee the UK for the Islamic world, despite fighting deportation from the UK for eight years.

Qatada, who was extradited to Jordan back in 2013, is warning Muslims they face ‘bloodshed’ in the West and that ‘Muslims living in the west will lose. Sedition and spread of bloodshed will devour them’.

Counter extremists at the Quilliam Foundation believe that Qatada’s comments, which were made on Twitter, are designed to cause friction between Muslims and Christians in Britain by promoting a ‘clash of civilisations narrative’, The Daily Star reports.

The Quilliam Foundation’s Head of policy, Jonathan Russell, said:

Abu Qatada is reinforcing the extremist idea that you cannot be a good Muslim in a non-Muslim country. This makes it easier for jihadists to recruit Muslims in the West.

The irony is that Abu Qatada spent all those years fighting to stay in the UK.

Back in September 2014, Qatada was freed from prison in Jordan when he was found innocent of terrorism offences as judges said there was ‘insufficient evidence’ to convict him of planning a terrorist plot.

Following his deportation from the UK , the Home Office confirmed Qatada would ‘not coming back to the UK’  as he was a threat to security.
