It’s come to that time of the year again when Red Hot’s (in)famous calendar hits our stores, this time they’ve sent out a PSA for their fellow gingers to contribute.
Red Hot has put the ginger community on notice as they are on the hunt for one or two confident male redheads to go ‘full monty’ for their next calendar.
The concept of the calendar is to dispel the notion that ginger people (mainly blokes I suppose) are unattractive and undesirable.
If you ask me, I say beauty is subjective and is in the eye of the beholder and what not. However, I do agree the ginger community does suffer from some intense discrimination and ridicule for the rest of the world’s amusement. For those on the outside, it’s a little harmless fun but for those subjected to the ‘banterific’ japes and taunts, they might not find it so funny.
Which is why the guys behind the Red Hot calendars started this project. The theme of the calendar aims to create a new dialogue and narrative which empowers ginger men ‘with a fiery red bush standing proudly before us’. Their words, not mine.
They’ve set up a Kickstarter where you can donate to the production and distribution of this year’s calendar.
In the Kickstarter, the Red Hot team state:
There is nothing like the feeling of being naked.
But being naked and ginger often causes a different type of reaction. We are not used to seeing a sexy ginger man with fiery, red pubic hair standing proudly before us.
At Red Hot we are all about breaking down socially perceived flaws and smashing taboos. When we introduced our now infamous FULL FRONTAL calendar last year we have never had a response like it.
So Red Hot Cocks is back for another year with a brand new cast of 12 ginger studs, showcasing all new fire crotches, copper knobs and ginger nuts.
Last year we wrote about Red Hot and their red revival movement. The powerful initiative led to two best selling art books and five years worth of ‘artistically shot’ charity calendars.
According to Red Hot:
Many people still think negatively about ginger hair in the UK, especially ginger pubic hair which is somewhat of a taboo.
Which is why every year, they launch a yearly spin-off calendar. 2017’s ‘Red Hot C**ks’ calendar was an apparent hit, which raised thousands of pounds for charity and stuck two middle fingers up at any ginger jokes.
Following the success, photographer Thomas Knights and art director Elliott James Frieze went on the hunt for ’12 new, sporty, ginger lads’ to strip off for this year’s calendar. The response in submissions has been nothing short of overwhelming, according to Thomas. While they’ve got more than enough models up for taking part in this year’s calendar, they did confirm they are still looking for one or two more models.
Sales from last year’s cheeky calendar went towards supporting Movember’s Testicular Cancer Awareness Campaign.
Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer among men aged between 15 and 49 in the UK, affecting many young men in the prime of their lives.
