Sinead O’Connor ‘Never Wants To Spend Time With White People Again’

Shuhada’ Davitt, formerly known as Sinead O’Connor, declared on Twitter she ‘never wants to spend time with white people again’ after converting to Islam.

The Nothing Compares 2 U singer changed her name and began practising Islam in October, when she announced to her Twitter followers she had become a Muslim.

Davitt had previously changed her name to Magda Davitt last year.

Sharing the news, she wrote:

This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim.

This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey. All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant. I will be given (another) new name. It will be Shuhada.

She added an explanation for why she had chosen the name, writing:

I took the name, Shuhada, in honor of Bobby Sands and all the Irish Hunger strikers.

Today (November 6), Davitt shared a controversial statement saying she never wanted to spend time with white people again, writing they were ‘disgusting’ in among tweets about her faith.

She wrote:

I’m terribly sorry. What I’m about to say is something so racist I never thought my soul could ever feel it. But truly I never wanna spend time with white people again (if that’s what non-muslims are called). Not for one moment, for any reason. They are disgusting.

The singer went on to post further tweets, questioning whether they would end up being deleted.

She wrote:

Interesting to see if Twitter bans this when it allows people like Trump and Milbank spew the satanic filth upon even my country.

Forgive me. Sometimes the Lord needs dirty workers

Before converting to Islam, the Irish singer famously tore up a picture of the pope during a Saturday Night Live performance before getting ordained by an Irish Orthodox priest in the 1990s.

Yesterday, Davitt explained she had disabled comments on her Twitter page to prevent ‘European white males’ from ‘abusing’ her, and to avoid her doing the same in response.

She wrote:

In order to avoid abusive European white males, and in order that I avoid abusing them back, I’ve prevented anyone i’m Not following from commenting on my page. Everyone is safer this way.

Today’s tweet was met with criticism by many Twitter users.

One person wrote:

Wow. Way to lump and entire race of people into one sweeping category. I thought better of you than that. I just sang your praises recently. So disappointed.

Another advised Davitt not to address white people in such a collective statement, writing:

My sis this is just a handful of ppl who’ve treated you this way. Not all non-Muslims will mistreat you. Just as not all Muslims will treat you well. As a revert myself (over 22 years), I have experienced prejudice from Muslims who have very narrow minded views about reverts.

A third responded:

No one’s ethnicity makes them disgusting, no matter which individuals you’ve encountered. Likewise, we shouldn’t condemn/generalise all non-Muslims as disgusting, especially by citing ethnicity. The Quran says they’re not all the same.
