With well known faces such as Kylie Jenner, her sisters, and other such vain personalities from LA taking to ‘the gram’ to subtly promote somebody else’s thing, this way of doing things has become pretty much unavoidable on the platform.
That’s where new app Takumi comes in. The app aims to connect influential Instagrammers with brands who are looking to use them in their promotional efforts, and 10 per cent of the UK is apparently eligible to earn money this way. When we say this way, I mean by literally taking a selfie.
Essena O'Neill, who had over 500,000 followers, famously quit social media recently, but could have earned up to £150,000 a yearThe figures speak for themselves, and based on how many followers you have (you have to have a minimum of 1,000), brands are willing to pay up to £2,000 per image.
According to the Daily Mail, those with 1,000 followers can rack up over £4,000 a year, while those with over 10,000 followers can earn up to £16,000 depending on post frequency. And the cash only increases if the follower count does.

The practise is seen all over the internet these days, with YouTubers such as Zoella really bringing it to the forefront of people’s minds in recent times, after a law was brought into force legislating that vloggers advertising in their videos must clearly state that the video is a promotion.
Instagram, however, looks like it will soon become – if it hasn’t already – the go-to place for brands to sell their businesses to the masses, and it’s becoming more and more lucrative by the month.
