A student allegedly went to extreme lengths to stop his parents from visiting him, phoning in a hoax bomb threat on their flight.

The unnamed 23-year-old man is said to have called in a hoax bomb threat on easyJet flight EZY4319, which his parents were on, on January 18.

The flight which was carrying 159 passengers from Lyon to Rennes, France, where the man’s currently studying, was forced to turn around shortly after take-off, landing back in Lyon.

As reported by Airlive, the public prosecutor of Rennes said in a statement ‘the author of the facts has been identified’ adding ‘he did not wish that his parents, who had taken place on board this plane, join him in Rennes’.

Placed in custody, the young man will appear at a criminal court on May 21, charged with ‘false news compromising the safety of an aircraft in flight’.

He is facing up to five years in prison and a €75,000 fine if found guilty.

A spokesperson for the airline confirmed to the Independent the flight returned to Lyon because of a security related issue.

They added:

The captain took the decision as a precaution only. The aircraft landed safely and was met by the fire brigade and the police in line with procedures.

Passengers disembarked normally and were provided with information and refreshments. The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority.

Last Christmas a dad actually joined his air hostess daughter on all her flights as she was working over the festive period.

The dedicated dad, Hal Vaughan, wanted to spend Christmas with his daughter Pierce, so booked onto every one of her flights on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so he could see her.

31-year-old Mike Levy, from Toledo, Ohio, who sat next to Hal on the plane, shared photos of the two writing on Facebook:

I had the pleasure of sitting next to Hal on my flight back home. His daughter Pierce was our flight attendant who had to work over Christmas.

Hal decided he would spend the holiday with her. So, he is flying on each of her flights today and tomorrow around the country to spend time with his daughter for Christmas.

What a fantastic father! Wish you both a very Merry Christmas!

Levy’s Facebook post went viral earning, at time of writing (January 25), 215,000 likes and 42,000 shares.

Speaking to ABC News, Levy added:

I asked if he was going home or on vacation and he said his daughter was a flight attendant and so he was just flying around with her. She had to work and her father just followed her around the country.

I thought that it was extremely special of him to do for his daughter, so that she didn’t have to spend Christmas Eve alone.

As I was sitting there waiting for the person next to me to come on the plane, I was hoping it would be some kind of celebrity and I ended up making him celebrity instead.

What a great dad!
