A student tired of listening to their neighbour’s deafening hanky panky decided to take matters into their own hands, but they didn’t anticipate the response.

We’ve all been there before, whether on the giving or receiving end. I’m speaking about narky notes to or from housemates or neighbours here. Dirty minds.

Anyway, it’s an unpleasant business, however sometimes you can get a reaction you would never imagine.

Jenna Levine from Syracuse University posted the following adorably polite note under her neighbour’s door:

Hello neighbor,

Please have sex a little more quietly please.

Some of us are trying to nap and not be reminded how alone I am…feel free to make all the love you want.

Just please, make it nasty at a lower volume. Thank you!

Jenna was understandably a little bit nervous about speaking up. After all, this could have led to an awkward and even argumentative situation.

Speaking with Mashable, Jenna said:

I was so nervous when I slipped it under their door. I tiptoed away like a cartoon burglar.

However, she needn’t have worried, as it seems all that rumpy pumpy had made her neighbours super generous and erm, neighbourly.

The naughty neighbours responded to the original note with a letter of their own, and even slipped a sizeable bar of choccy under the door.

A sweet note was written on the golden wrapper, reading, ‘Deepest apologies – hope you enjoy this chocolate bar!’

And this wasn’t all. The amorous couple had written a very friendly – and motivational – letter indeed – showing you just shouldn’t judge a person on their sex noises alone:

Dearest neighbors,

I’m so so incredibly sorry about that.

I didn’t realize how loud I was being, and ya know, sometimes having loud sex is low key kinda hot but obviously at your cost, which I apologize so sincerely for.

I’m so so sorry, I hope this hasn’t occurred too often, and thanks so much for the incredible and hilarious card.

I will for sure try to make it nasty at a significantly lower level. And hey, don’t you worry, you’re not alone forever.

The right person will come along when the time comes. I was single for 18 years. Haha. Once again, I apologize so sincerely and deeply.

Sorry, Room 338.

Evidently shocked by this new, non-moaning-infused method of communication, Jenna told Mashable:

I never thought they would actually write back. At first I was nervous they were gonna murder me but my they were really good sports about it.

She added:

I still haven’t met my neighbors but they’ve tweeted at me how excited they are that we’re going viral and that they’re gonna keep the note forever.

Aww. Jenna went on to tweet her story via photographs, with the completely correct caption ‘college is weird’.

People loved this relatable tale of neighbourly TMI, with one person describing the interaction as ‘hilarious and awesome’.

Another person was inspired by Jenna’s proactive attitude, declaring: ‘I’m gonna do this when our downstairs neighbour has loud sex again. We’re not even in college omg’.

If only all such situations could be smoothed over with chocolate and kind words.

Despite all the headboard rattling, Jenna certainly could have much less friendly neighbours…
