How do you say Ralph Lauren?

There are two popular trains of thought. One places the emphasis on the ‘REN’ at the end of his second name and the other is the correct way.

That is right, according to Twitter user @Milbermann, the correct pronunciation is to say Lauren as though it were a woman’s first name – and he has it on the fashion brands letterhead to prove it…

Having sought clarification from the company Silbermann received an unequivocal answer from Benjamin Lisi, a general manager who claims to have spent a lot of time with the designer himself.

The reply read:

Thank you for your letter… I have been working for Ralph Lauren for 13 years and spend a lot of time with Ralph Lauren (the man) during the summer months, and I would like to assure you that the way you are pronouncing his name is correct. As you put it, “LAUren,” like a girl’s name.”

“This is the way he pronounces it along with everyone in his company and throughout the fashion world. It is a common mistake that a lot of people make, even on the East Coast. Hopefully this letter will clear up any mistakes your friends have been making.

So not Ralph LauREN, just Ralph Lauren – but if you continue to argue with anyone about this just get everyone to calm down and call it ‘Ralphie’…
